The Teix Range: Valdemossa to Deia to Soller, Cami de s'Archiduc and Punta Galera
The Teix range runs from Valdemossa in the west to Soller in the east, and is one of the most easily accessed part of the Serra de Tramuntana from Palma. Culminating at 1065 meters, the mountains slope to the south and tower steeply above the north coast, forming an impressively large and quite vertical amphitheatre above the village of Deia.
A drystone footpath following the western ridge was built in the late 1800's by the Archiduc Luis Salvador, and forms a popular loop walk with exceptional views out of Valdemossa. This path can also be walked as part of a hike from Valdemossa to Deia, as a turn off will lead you down to the sea from the ridge.
The Teix summit is at the centre of the range; one has to cross private land that I believe belongs to the Teix bottling company, passing by what must be the most often ignored and least enforced no entry sign on the Serra Tramuntana.
Further to the west, the mountain continue towards Soller with the spectacular view point of Sa Galera above Deia along the way, from which Soller can easily be reached in a couple of hours.
Adventurous hikers can attempt a number of difficult and exposed passes between Deia and the main ridge. Note that access to the range from the Coll de Soller has been closed off by the Teix bottling company.
